Here's why I'm not running this cycle...
As you may know, I'm defending (along with many other good Americans) our United States by serving on the US/Mexico border and by building our nation's border defenses.
The deadline to submit a petition to run in the next election, a petition filled with the names of registered voters... that deadline passed in early April. I was not able to break away from the mission down here long enough to come home and gather the signatures and file the petition on time. Our military commanders and the Border Patrol had set a goal of finishing miles of anti-vehicle barriers before the end of March. Even tough the goal seemed impossible, we were able to push hard... AND AGAINST ALL ODDS, WE MET THAT GOAL AND FINISHED CONSTRUCTING OUR SECTION OF BORDER DEFENSES!!! HOOWAH!!
Because we were able to complete the mission, I am not so unhappy that I didn't get back home in time to file for the 2008 Tennessee State House election. I always figured that if I were chosen to serve in our Tennessee State House, I'd be doing the same thing there that I'm doing down here: Defending our nation, our Tennessee, our homes and our families. So as long as I'm given the privilege of defending you, I'm happy to do the job whether I'm defending you on a hot desert border or defending you in the stuffy House Chambers.
There is a slight difference... the air is cleaner and more refreshing and the people more honest out here in the desert as opposed to most of the sharks circling in the stinking smoke filled back rooms of our Tennessee State Legislature.
So... I'll run again in 2010, good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise. Look for me then.
